YOUNG LEARNERS: The Benefits of Dot to Dot Activities.(Includes 30 printable worksheets)

Dot-to-dots worksheets are a fun, educational exercise that has many benefits for young learners.

Using a dot-to-dot worksheet teaches children the order of numbers and helps them to learn to count. In many cases, children may need a little help, but as they get older, completing a dot-to-dot all by themselves is a great confidence booster for them.

Dot-to-dot worksheets are also wonderful for improving hand-eye coordination. There is a lot of concentration that goes into completing a dot-to-dot worksheet as well as the obvious developmental improvement to their visual-motor control skills.

Doing dot-to-dot worksheets also really helps to improve children's handwriting skills and is a valuable pre-writing teaching tool. As part of this process, children learn how to create shapes, control their pencils, and learn how much pressure to apply to the paper.

In addition, working on a dot-to-dot is a great way to strengthen hand and finger muscles in preparation for writing. During early childhood is the optimal time to help children to develop the vital muscles that they will be using throughout their life. Children can concentrate on gripping their pencil and strengthen their hands while working on dot-to-dot.

For young learners, the essential skills of concentration and focus are developed through working on dot-to-dot worksheets as well as allowing them to experience a great sense of pride and achievement when they finish the activities.

There are many dot-to-dot activities and worksheets available on the internet, either from specific educational websites, or through Google images, but below, I have attached a small selection that can be downloaded and printed.

Good luck and good teaching.
